Bicycle Pedal Generator
Convert an old bike and a DC motor into a human-powered charger for when the sun doesn't shine.
This is for educational purposes only. Not professional medical, electrical, or safety advice.
- 01
Mount the bike
Clamp the rear wheel in a trainer stand so it spins freely.
- 02
Couple the motor
Press the motor shaft against the tire (friction drive) or use a belt from the wheel rim to a pulley.
- 03
Block back-flow
Add a diode so the battery cannot spin the motor backwards.
- 04
Regulate
Run output through a charge controller to the battery—never directly.
- 05
Expect realistic output
A fit adult produces 75–100W. One hour of pedaling ≈ charging phones and radios for days.
