Warning

- 01
Stop bleeding
Direct firm pressure 10 minutes. For life-threatening limb bleeding, apply a tourniquet 2–3 in. above the wound.
- 02
Irrigate thoroughly
Flush with large amounts of clean (boiled & cooled) water under pressure—a bag with a pinhole works.
- 03
Close only clean wounds
Use butterfly strips for clean, fresh cuts. Leave dirty, bite or puncture wounds open to drain.
- 04
Watch for infection
Spreading redness, heat, pus, fever or red streaks need antibiotics or professional care.
