Inverters, Fuses and Safe DC Wiring
Run household AC devices from a battery bank without fires: wire gauges, fuses and inverter choice.

Warning
Batteries can deliver thousands of amps in a short circuit. Remove rings and metal jewelry, and use insulated tools.
- 01
Choose pure sine
Pure sine wave inverters run motors, fridges and electronics safely. Modified sine can damage them.
- 02
Size the inverter
Add the running watts you'll use at once, then ensure surge rating covers motor startup (fridges spike 3× running watts).
- 03
Use thick, short cables
A 1,000W inverter on 12V draws ~90A. Use 2 AWG or thicker and keep runs under 5 ft.
- 04
Fuse every positive
Put a fuse rated slightly above max current right at the battery. This is the #1 fire prevention step.
- 05
Add a disconnect
A master switch lets you kill power instantly in an emergency.
