Build a Pantry You Actually Rotate
Turn ordinary groceries into a usable emergency reserve with meal planning, first-in-first-out shelves and a paper inventory.
This is for educational purposes only. Not professional medical, electrical, or safety advice.

- 01
Plan familiar meals
List meals everyone can eat, including allergies and medical diets. Include ready-to-eat choices that need no added water or heat. Build a small reserve first rather than buying a year's supply of unfamiliar food.
- 02
Count calories, not serving claims
Read calories on the actual package and calculate what each planned meal supplies. A advertised serving may be a side dish, not a whole meal. Needs vary by age, activity, climate and health; do not impose one ration on everyone.
- 03
Put older food in front
Arrange purchases first-in-first-out. Record contents, quantities and dates on paper. Add new packages behind the older ones and choose a regular meal from the use-next shelf.
- 04
Protect the storage site
Keep packages cool, dry and dark, away from pests, floodwater, fuels and cleaning chemicals. Avoid hot attics and damp floors. Preserve original labels and preparation directions if you move food to another container.
- 05
Inspect and replenish
Check package integrity and storage instructions each time you use or replace food. Discard suspect leaking, swollen or badly damaged containers without tasting. Replenish what you eat and adjust the plan when household needs change.
